Yuga Labs Redesigns Bored Ape Kennel Club Logo After Copyright Claim

On Feb 18th, Greg Solano, co-founder of Yuga Labs, announced that Bored Ape Kennel Club would change its logo following allegations of copyright infringement from Easy Drawing Guides, a company that teaches drawing.

The BAKC logo is next to a picture from Easy Drawing Guides, which looks very similar. The BAKC logo looks exactly like the Easy Drawing Guide’s wolf skull. When Solano saw this, he said that he didn’t know about the claims and that they were checking to find out more about the situation.

Easy Drawing Guides said on Feb 17th that Yuga Labs doesn’t have permission to use its “wolf skull drawing” for making money.

“Yuga Labs doesn’t have a license to the wolf skull drawing. The intellectual property rights for the drawing belong to Easy Drawing Guides as it’s our original drawing and protected by our Terms and Conditions.”

After Solano talked about the situation, the BAYC OpenSea page removed the logo. He is talking with Easy Drawing Guides and the person who made the BAKC logo. The BAKC NFTs started in June 2021 and were given for free to BAYC owners, but they had to pay a small fee.

When people sold the NFTs, some money went to animal charities. Solano said they had raised over $1 million for animals since they started doing this. He said the contractor was

commissioned to create it. Solano also said he had “reached out to the freelancer we hired for that design.”

Yuga Labs in Copyright Dispute, Reveals New Logo for Charity Support

He also mentioned that they’d reveal the new logo soon to keep supporting the causes they care about. Yuga Labs had a copyright dispute with Ryder Ripps and RR developers over BAYC images in the RR/BAYC collection.BAKC trends on OpenSea with 9 ETH floor price, raised for charity.

Yuga Labs created the RR/BAYC collection to bring attention to allegations of racist imagery in their design. Lehman coded the smart contract for the project and settled by rejecting negative comments about Yuga Labs and its founders. However, the case against Ryder Ripps is still ongoing.
