Polygon ID Unveils New Tools For Enhanced Digital Trust & Privacy

Polygon ID, a decentralized identity solution designed for public use, has unveiled four new tools to bolster its identity infrastructure. However, These tools aim to foster a more equitable internet with identity as its foundational principle.

The infrastructure encourages trustworthy, secure partnerships between users and apps by default, supporting self-sovereign identification and privacy.

The tools are available Verifier SDK, Issuer Node, Wallet SDK, and Wallet App. Polygon ID allows users to prove identity without revealing private data using zero-knowledge proofs, ensuring privacy and freedom of expression.

On Mar 1, Polygon launched Polygon ID, a decentralized identity solution that utilizes zero-knowledge technology. However, Polygon, a layer-2 scaling protocol developed on Ethereum, has made the answer publicly accessible.

Exploring The Foundations Of Polygon ID: The Triangle Of Trust

The blog post claims that Polygon ID uses Verifiable Credentials to describe identity-based information and a unique decentralized identifier called DID to identify each identity (VCs).

A VC can represent any data about a person, business, or item, like a membership certificate given out by a DAO or the highest degree a person has earned. The identity holder, Issuer, and Verifier make up the triangle of trust, which Polygon ID claims comprise the framework’s architecture. Additionally, the components work together to create a system of belief essential to the framework’s functioning.

When VCs are issued, the Identity Holder creates zero-knowledge proofs of them and stores them in his wallet. The Verifier receives these proofs for digital certificates. The organization that issues VCs to the Holder is known as the Issuer, and the Issuer cryptographically signs each VC.

Additionally, the Verifier evaluates the proof submitted by the Holder and performs a series of assessments to confirm that the anticipated Issuer has signed the VC and that it meets the Verifier’s prescribed requirements.

However, wallets facilitate VC transfer and safeguard private keys for Issuer-Verifier-User, which is crucial for seamless transactions. The private key in the wallet secures Holder’s identity and sensitive info and can’t be disclosed without explicit approval.
